ROW80

This page is dedicated to chart writing progress through particpation in Kait Nolan’s Round of Words in 80 Days, “the writing challenge that knows you have a life.”

Update for Sunday, March 16, 2014:

Amazingly enough, I am on the ROW80 wagon once again! Here are my stats for the past four days:

Read 7 books for enjoyment. I read another book for pleasure. That brings my total to 4.

  • Read 7 books for enjoyment. I have read 4 books to date. Started another book but only read two chapters so far. So busy with day job this time of year.
  • Write an average of 750 new words for current WIP daily. I had hoped to write these past few days but I had a huge day job project and other writing responsibilities to accomplish. I have been brainstorming for the third book during in-between moments. As soon as I finish this update, I’m going into the writer cave for a few hours. So excited to return to my WIP!! 🙂
  • Write an article three articles for LIRW Shorelines’ newsletter. Two completed, one still in the drafting stage. I have an idea for another article but have to check with our newsletter editor to see if it has been done recently.
  • Read and comment on 2 blog posts per day. Yes. Done.
  • Engage in social media 1/2 hour per day. Happily done. 🙂
  • Pilates for 20 minutes five days a week PLUS new goal of Thin Thighs in 30 Days Program. I am back in the groove with small weights and thigh exercises. 🙂
  • Create weekly blog for Margarita Moments. It’s complete and scheduled to go live in the morning. 🙂

NEW GOALS AS A RESULT OF SALE…

  • Complete COVER ART paperwork. Done. 🙂
  • Complete AUTHOR BIO paperwork. Done. 🙂
  • Read Entangled Author Bios, check out their websites and connect with them on Twitter. Minimum of one alphabet letter per day. I completed the I names. Didn’t realize how many emails I’d have to wade through daily. That’s slowing down the process a bit.
  • Hire Web Design Team. Waxcreative Design will be sending me the contract to sign sometime this week. I’m so excited to start the creative process of author branding.

NEW, NEW GOAL AS A RESULT OF SALE…

  • Research author headshot photographers.
  • Send out letters to authors regarding possible book cover quote.
  • Set up Author Page on Facebook.

Thanks, Steph. I’m not writing as many words as I’d like, but I’m generally meeting the goal. 🙂

I love that ROW is for those of us who have a life that sometimes usurps our writing goals. Even so, we don’t have to feel defeated. Stop by anytime, Jolyse.

Jolyse, I think you’ve given yourself a broad enough spectrum of things to do that you’re really, really kicking some booty. You. Go. Girl!!

Thanks, Jenny! I’m trying. I’d been disappointed with my progress the first half on this year. With everyone’s support and feeling accountable through ROW80, I know I can still accomplish my New Year’s resolutions. 🙂

I must say I also like the way you present your goals. It keeps it all clear and in place and you know what you have done or not. I’m thinking how I can adapt it so it works for me because I like creating posts.

Thanks Gerhi! I set this up on a separate page mainly not to impose on my regular Margarita Moments readers. So far this is working out, but I don’t know how much I’ll be able to add to this page before it maxes out.

Good luck with your writing too. 🙂

Love the variety of your goals that encompass a number of creative tasks. I’ve updated my goals this week, as so much of what I was doing wasn’t being counted!

Story Engineering is wonderfully helpful. I’m reading it very methodically. After each section, I look at my wips, identify the different components, and then work on bringing more depth to each as needed.

Thanks for cheering me on. I have a feeling it will be a challenge getting new words on paper before the next update. 🙂 Good luck with your goals. I look forward to visiting your blog soon.

Hi Jeannette. I’m afraid it may appear more than it is, since I had missed THREE updates in a row due to vacation. Thanks for the kind words, though, and I’m inspired to keep going so I can be proud of my Wednesday update.

I have to hop over to your blog now and see what you’ve accomplished. 🙂

Holy list of goals batman! 🙂 Congrats on all your progress, you are so totally rockin’ it! And by the way, I love your sight! It’s so neat and and that picture of the beach-omg it looks so pretty. Good luck the rest of the this week (and to your daughter on her MCAT!)

Hi Kat! Thanks so much for stopping by. I always wish I could accomplish more, but I’m pleased with my progress this summer. It’s definitely more than if I hadn’t written the goals and made myself accountable to you all.

That beach is Sunset Key, located just off the island of Key West in Florida. One day, when I’m rich and famous, LOL, I want to rent a cottage there for a month and invite my writer friends to enjoy it with me. 🙂 We can dream big, right?

Keep writing until your dreams come true. 🙂

Great list of goals and your approach seems methodical and sensible. I did notice that you read story engineering, a favorite of mine as well. As the others have said, your goals seem to flow together so continued success in this round..

Hi Lauren! Thanks for the kind words. I’m excited about the prospect of actually finishing this current wip by the end of the year. If I hadn’t committed to ROW80, I doubt I’d be in range of achieving that goal. I’m also hoping my family sees improved effort on my part when it comes to feeding them. 🙂 I’ve been gluten- and dairy-free since February, and I often have a difficult time getting myself to eat. It can be frustrating when all I want is a slice of pizza or mac and cheese. :O

But I’ll work around the dietary issues and focus on making healthy meals for my family, even if I have to make an alternate plate for myself.

Good luck with your goals, too!

Thanks, Jennette. I’m trying to write a lot today, and make up for my lack of new words the second half of this week. I’m proud of what I accomplished earlier though, considering how crazy things were…no power for six days and just trying to get our basic needs met.

A concise list, Jolyse. Those are the best, imho, for a single round. Of course it doesn’t stop some of us *blushes* from overreaching….

May you have a great “Welcome back” round.

Thanks, Eden. I understand all about overreaching. It can be very positive to stretch beyond your comfort zone too. I never thought I’d write more than 3K in a day before I tried it. I wrote 4.5K once. Only problem. I didn’t write more than a few hundred words the rest of that week. LOL

      Write, write, write. 🙂

The 5K NaNoWriMo burnout… I know that feeling all too well. Maybe building up slowly to 3.5K days then 4K, … steps and stages.

Welcome back, Jolyse! Nice, concise list of goals, with a good, healthy daily word count. Looking forward to the day when I can get back to that! 🙂 You can accomplish a lot writing 750 words a day.

Good luck on your goals, and look forward to seeing you around more again. 🙂

I think sometimes you go the scenic route in order to get to your destination. That’s how I see your getting off track. You had to off road to get on the right road. I hope ot continues more smoothly from this point on.

Your goals sound very reasonable, Jolyse. 750 words seems like a writing “sweet spot” for many of us. I’m aiming for about 500-1,000 words/day, so we’re pretty much on the same page. Good luck with your ROW80 goals!

Still, so much great news to report! If that’s what not checking in regularly does for you…. Well, the ROW80 is the challenge that knows you have a life (and a unique productivity style). Great progress and great news!
